MONTREAL -- This time around the Hamilton Tiger-Cats were happy to see a Quinton Porter comeback bid fall short. Jacob Evans Jersey . Lindsay Lamar scored on an 88-yard punt return as Hamilton held on for a 33-26 win over the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday night in the CFL pre-season opener for both teams. Tiger-Cats quarterback Dan LeFevour threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Chevon Walker just before halftime and Delbert Alvarado kicked three field goals in the first half. "I thought the effort was outstanding," said Hamilton head coach Kent Austin, who won in his first CFL game since 2007, when he coached Saskatchewan to the Grey Cup. "We played really hard for the entire game." Ticats QB Jeremiah Masoli scored on a one-yard run 1:13 into the fourth quarter to put Hamilton up 33-12 in front of a Percival Molson Stadium crowd of 20,174. Porter threw a pair of touchdown passes as Montreal mounted a comeback bid. The former Ticats quarterback connected with Kenny Stafford on a 75-yard touchdown 3:04 into the fourth to draw the Alouettes within 33-19. Porter also threw a 20-yard touchdown to Tyron Carrier at 10:34. "We knew it just takes a couple of big plays like that and things can change, but I just wish we could have kept more going at the end there," said Porter, who spent the last five seasons with Hamilton. "We just ran out of time." Brett Lauther kicked a 14-yard field goal for the Tiger-Cats in the third quarter after Hamilton conceded a safety. As happy as he was about his teams effort, Austin saw plenty of areas of the Ticats game that he wants to improve. "Weve got to clean up a lot of things," said Austin, who coached Cornell for the last two seasons after spending two years as the offensive co-ordinator at the University of Mississippi, his alma mater. "Too many penalties, especially on special teams. Weve got to eliminate some of those mistakes, and we will. Well be better with our assignments next week." LeFevour completed 10-of-19 passes for 149 yards in the first half. "I thought we moved the ball pretty well," LeFevour said. "We moved the ball consistently. There were no real two-and-outs, not a lot of them, and just making plays and at least giving ourselves an opportunity to score." Masoli completed 5-of-10 attempts for 82 yards. Brian Brohm also went 5 for 10, for 110 yards, including a 38-yard pass to Eric McCree on a drive that led to Lauthers field goal that made it 26-12. Chris Jennings scored a touchdown on a one-yard run as the Alouettes took a 7-0 lead 2:28 into the game, which marked Montreal head coach Dan Hawkins pro coaching debut. The veteran U.S. college coach replaced Marc Trestman, who left Montreal to become the Chicago Bears head coach. Hawkins, who spent the last two years as an ESPN college football analyst, coached Boise State to a 53-11 mark from 2001-05. He also coached Willamette and Colorado and has a 112-61-1 coaching record in the college ranks. "He was great," Porter said. "Hes got a great attitude and he kept a positive attitude. Even when we were down hes not getting on guys and as pros we really appreciate that." There was a long delay, 9:31 into the second, after Montreal receiver David Clowney was injured on a helmet-to-helmet hit while he was blocking. Players from both teams kneeled on the field and sidelines while Clowney was attended to by medical staff as he lay on the field. Clowney was placed on a spinal board and his neck was immobilized with a cervical collar before he was carried off the field. Hawkins could not describe Clowneys injury and had no update on his condition. Anthony Calvillo completed a 50-yard pass to Jamel Richardson on the Alouettes first play from scrimmage. The 40-year-old quarterback guided Montreal through its first offensive series, a five-play touchdown drive capped by Jennings one-yard plunge. Josh Neiswander came in for Calvillo on the Alouettes second offensive series. He completed 8-of-23 pass attempts for 99 yards in the first half, including a 23-yard catch by Wallace Wright. "Were trying to get a look at a lot of guys," Hawkins said. "I thought they competed well, which was great. I thought their spirit was great. You know, the first unit, they were awesome. They came out and started fast so I give them a lot of credit for their mentality of coming out of the gate and getting after it." Porter ran the Als offence for most of the second half. He completed 8-of-17 pass attempts for 178 yards, taking over after Tanner Marsh guided Montreal through its first two series of the third quarter. Kevin Knox Jersey . The veteran safety was a starter for the Bengals from 2008-2012. He totaled 41 tackles and three interceptions while starting all but four of the 13 games he played last season. DeAnthony Melton Jersey . The home side created most of the chances but struggled to break down Braunschweigs resilient defence, resulting in the Bundesligas 1,000th scoreless draw. http://www.cheapjerseysauthenticnba.us/jalen-brunson-jersey/ . Emery skated the length of the ice and fought an unwilling Holtby during the third period of the Flyers 7-0 loss Friday night in Philadelphia. He was given 29 penalty minutes, including a game misconduct. But Emery did not face even a disciplinary hearing with NHL senior vice president of player safety Brendan Shanahan because rules 46. Light heavyweight contender Vyacheslav Slava Shabranskyy made his name as a fighter to watch in the division largely on the basis of a decision win against formidable Yunieski Gonzalez in December 2015.Now Shabranskyy (17-0, 14 KOs), 29, a Ukraine native living in Los Angeles, hopes to further enhance his growing reputation, and perhaps put himself in line for a world title shot, with a win against the best opponent of his career in Sullivan Barrera, whom he will fight in a 10-round match on Friday (HBO Latino, 10 p.m. ET/PT) at the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, California. It feels great [to be in the main event], Shabranskyy said. Its a huge accomplishment for my career. It shows me that I am close to the level that I want to be at, and that I am closer to the fights I want. It is a step in the direction of where I desire my career to go.Sullivan is one of the toughest opponents I have faced yet, Shabranskyy said. Hes faced fighters like Andre Ward and has gone the distance and has demonstrated his skill. Knowing that he needs [to win] this fight will make him even more hungry in the ring, and we are expecting him to come forward. With this fight, I [might] get the opportunity to face opponents like Andre Ward. But first things first -- I have to finish Barrera. We never say we are going for the knock out. Thats not my style. We train to go the distance, especially knowing he has been under the care of a new trainer, so we dont know what kind of Barrera we are going to get.Shabranskyy attributes much of his improvement from the amateur game to professional boxing to trainer Manny Robles, who has had a breakout 2016 thanks to the world title victories of featherweight Oscar Valdez and junior featherweight Jessie Magdaleno, not to mention the continued development of rising middleweight prospect Jason Quigley, who will appear on Fridays non-televised undercard.Since coming here, meeting Manny Robles, and becoming a professional, its completely different [than training in Ukraine]. Its completely changed me, said Shabranskyy, who began boxing at age 13. When I first came here, my mentality was to just come and fight and get inside the ring. Manny had to tell me to take it easy, to refocus, and take it one fight at a time. Los Angeles isnt a pit stop. Its become my second home.Shabranskyy also picked up valuable experience when he served as a sparring partner for Bernard Hopkins before his 2014 loss to Sergey Kovalev in their light heavyweight unification fight.I learned so much sparring with Bernard. He is a very smart fighter inside the ring, Shabranskyy said. After every sparring session, we would sit down, and he would explain to me everything that he knew. Mikal Bridges Jersey. I was so excited to be in training camp with him. Bernards fight against Sergey Kovalev was not an easy fight, and Bernard gave him a tough 12 rounds. Bernard was able to adapt and strategized every round to last the 12 rounds. Now Shabranskyy faces Barrera, who was a standout amateur on the Cuban national team before coming to the United States. He has a tricky style and vast experience.Ive never fought anyone with his type of style. Although Ive seen many of his videos fighting, you never know who you are going to get in the ring, Shabranskyy said. We know that he has switched up his training camp, hes moved to Miami, which means we could see him fight a little different. We will tell what kind of Barrera shows up in the ring that day. It doesnt worry me that much, though. All I know is that I am training hard and will be prepared for it. Ill be able to tell you after the first round how its going. The 34-year-old Barrera (17-1, 12 KOs), a Miami-based Cuban defector, is coming off of a lopsided decision loss to Ward in March, and he is hoping to get back in the title hunt quickly. He will go into the fight with a new trainer, having split from Abel Sanchez, the 2015 Boxing Writers Association of America Trainer of the Year, in favor of Derik Santos. The reason for the switch, according to Barrera, is because he was more comfortable training in Miami than traveling to train at Sanchezs compound in Big Bear Lake, California.I had known about Derik for a long time, since I came to this country, Barrera said. My team and I thought this was the best decision to work closer to home. Camp is going great -- we had a long camp. It worked out perfect because I got time to really learn a lot of things from Derik.I must take advantage of my opportunity and do what I do best. It would be great to get a knockout because I know I am going into his home turf and his promoters home turf [and it is] going to be very tough to get a decision. My goal is to knock him out.The bout headlines a Golden Boy-promoted tripleheader that also includes two other 10-rounders:Junior welterweight Antonio Relentless Orozco (25-0, 16 KOs), 29, of San Diego, the No. 1 contender for unified world champion Terence Crawford, will risk his status against Fidel Maldonado Jr. (22-3-1, 19 KOs), 25, of Albuquerque, New Mexico.Welterweight Eddie Gomez (19-1, 11 KOs), 24, of Bronx, New York, will face Rashidi Ellis (16-0, 11 KOs), 23, of Lynn, Massachusetts, in the opener.
