STORRS, Conn. Nike Air Huarache Mens . -- Northeastern hadnt beaten UConn since the year before Jim Calhoun left the Boston-based Huskies to coach the ones at Connecticut. That changed Monday night.T.J. Williams scored 20 points and Northeastern won 64-61, dropping UConn to 0-2 for the first time in 48 years. Its pretty big for the school and its pretty big for our team this year, Williams said. Its really huge. It really hasnt sunk in yet, but it feels great; it feels wonderful.Donnell Gresham Jr. added 13 points for Northeastern (2-0) and Alex Murphy had nine points and 15 rebounds.Terry Larrier scored 17 points and Jalen Adams had 15 for UConn. The UConn Huskies had a chance to tie the game at the end when freshman Alterique Gilbert stole a cross-court pass from Murphy as Northeastern was trying to run out the clock. But his 3-pointer hit the rim just before the buzzer.I made one of the dumbest plays of my basketball career, said Murphy, a graduate transfer who played at both Duke and Florida. It got picked off but Donnell (Gresham) was there to defend the shot, so thank God for him.Northeastern led most of the way and was up 35-31 at halftime.UConn went on a 9-1 run to open the second half to take a four-point lead, but Northeastern responded with a 10-2 run of its own.A fast-break dunk by Murphy gave Northeastern its largest lead of the second half at 61-54 with just under 4 minutes left.Larriers off-balance runner in the lane had cut the lead to three points with 1:07 left and the Huskies forced a turnover to get the ball back. But Larrier missed two 3-pointers before Gilberts play at the end.Northeastern shot just 36 percent from the floor, but held UConn to 39 percent and outrebounded Connecticut 47-38, including 17-13 on the offensive boards. This is a dark time, UConn coach Kevin Ollie said. I know that. I understand the expectations of everybody here, in this room and at UConn. I feel embarrassed right now. But when I feel embarrassed, I know Im going to get through it and this team is going to get through it.BIG PICTUREUConn began the season ranked 18th in the nation and fell out of the rankings on Monday after losing its opener to Wagner , the teams first season-opening loss in 17 years. The Huskies are now 0-2 for the first time since the 1968-69 season, a year they started 0-10.Northeastern: Northeastern last beat UConn in 1985, a 90-73 victory for Calhouns team. The Hall-of-Fame coach won 248 games at Northeastern before guiding UConn to 625 wins and three national titles. Northeastern had lost eight straight in the series and 22 of the last 23 matchups between the schools. The Boston-based Huskies are now 5-35 against their namesakes.STAT OF THE NIGHTUConn made just 5 of 21 shots from 3-point range after going 6 for 19 from behind the arc against Wagner. Guards Rodney Purvis and Gilbert combined to go 2 for 11.BLOCK PARTYUConns 7-foot center Amida Brimah blocked eight shots, giving him 289 for his career. That is third in school history behind Emeka Okafor (441) and Hasheem Thabeet (417).INJURYUConn freshman guard Christian Vital, who had five points in the Huskies opener, was forced to sit out the game against Northeastern with back issues.UP NEXTUConn: The Connecticut Huskies head west and then head further west. UConn plays its first road game against Loyola Marymount in Kevin Ollies hometown of Los Angeles before traveling to Hawaii for the Maui Invitational, where Oklahoma State will be the opening round opponent on Nov. 21.Northeastern: The Boston-based Huskies face Boston University for the second time in three games on Friday. Northeastern won the season-opening matchup at home 87-77. The second game comes as part of the Steve Wright Classic. That tournament, being hosted by BU also will include games against LIU Brooklyn and Maine. Nike Air Huarache Womens . -- Running backs Darren McFadden and Rashad Jennings were back at practice for the Oakland Raiders on Wednesday despite being hampered by hamstring injuries. http://www.huarachesnikeshoes.com/ . Colin Wilson had two goals and an assist, and Mike Fisher scored a goal and helped set up two others in the Predators 6-4 victory over the Red Wings on Monday night. Dan Hughes cued up the video of a recent San Antonio Stars game. In particular, one in-bounds play that resulted in a basket for Monique Currie. The thing he noticed first was the Jayne Appel-Marinelli screen that got Currie free to knock down the shot.Jayne does those things for us, Hughes said.Shes done them a lot for seven years -- and thats why her body hurts. Pretty much all the time.I feel like a Band-Aid, Appel-Marinelli said. Every game, I put it on so I can play, and at the end of the game, I rip it off.My job has been extremely physical. I set screens for Becky Hammon for five years and for Kayla McBride after that. And I have a lot of tough defensive matchups. I may not get all the rebounds. But I have to keep somebody like Nneka [Ogwumike] from getting them.During the Olympic break, Appel-Marinelli went home to New York, to new husband Chris Marinelli. They got married in April, dating since they were at Stanford, where Marinelli played for the Cardinal football team. She had time to think. And rest. And imagine what the rest of her life might look like.Appel-Marinelli returned to San Antonio, gave it a couple of games and went into Hughes office and told her coach that this will be her last WNBA season. It just feels right, and I feel good about it, Appel-Marinelli said. This is the end of a playing career, but I dont feel like Im done with basketball.Hughes said he knew it when she walked in the door.I was at her wedding. I knew she was entering a different stage of her life, Hughes said. The timing is right for her in a lot of ways.Appel-Marinelli, who will move back to New York, hopes to stay involved with the WNBA players association. She has been the Stars player rep for five years, the WNBPAs secretary/treasurer for three. She did an offseason internship two years ago at St. Francis College in Brooklyn in the athletic department and said she is interested in the business side of athletics. And Appel-Marinelli will continue her work as a mental health advocate, a cause close to her heart as she has a family member diagnosed with schizophrenia.Hughes said that Appel-Marinelli taught her teammates an important lesson. She showed that you can use basketball as a vehicle to step into a community aand make it better, Hughes said. Nike Air Huarache White. On the floor, Appel-Marinellis pro career wasnt perhaps the highlight reel that many expected after a stellar career at Stanford, where she played in three Final Fours and two national championship games for Tara VanDerveer.VanDerveer regards Appel-Marinelli as one of the best post players shes ever coached, a pinpoint passer out of the paint with great hands and a team-first ethic. But Appel-Marinelli wasnt the same dominant post presence in the WNBA that she was in college. The player who put up 46 points against Iowa State in an Elite Eight game in 2009 never scored more than 17 points in a WNBA game in seven years.I never really knew what to expect from being a professional athlete, Appel-Marinelli said. I came into the draft with a broken foot and an injured ankle, and I missed my first training camp and felt like I spent my whole rookie year catching up.Appel-Marinelli played her entire WNBA career in San Antonio, starting 150 games (averaging 4.1 points and 6.1 rebounds) and settling into a role with the Stars that Hughes said was invaluable to the franchise. She is a strong rebounder, an imposing presence under the glass who has made the most of the things she does well. She came in here, battled through injuries and worked her way into a specific role, Hughes said. Jayne could rebound, she understands the game, she can pass the ball. She landed in a place that really appreciated what she could do. She was not going to get headlines for scoring. But she has always had the love of her team for all the little things she does to make them better.Appel-Marinelli said she will most miss her relationship with her teammates as she retires.Ive been lucky to get to go to work every day and play basketball with some of my best friends, she said. I have made lifelong friendships. But for the first time in her life, starting in a couple of weeks, she will have control of her own schedule. For the first time since high school, maybe even before that, Appel-Marinelli said. Its time to see what else is out there, what comes next after basketball.
